Parallel Wireless and Vodafone launch an Innovative Open RAN Initiative in Turkey
We are thrilled to announce a collaboration with Vodafone on a multi-vendor Open RAN initiative in Turkey along with Juniper Networks.
Vodafone is leveraging the Parallel Wireless Open RAN solution along with RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) applications to create flexible, efficient, and secure mobile networks that meet the demands of the 5G era.
Following comprehensive testing at Vodafone test labs in Turkey, deployments take place across trial sites. The trial installations are based on Parallel Wireless end-to-end Open RAN solution, delivering cutting-edge broadband communications. The trials also involve advanced RIC applications, in collaboration with Juniper Networks, to offer smart functionalities such as Admission Control and Traffic Steering.
The focus of the project, both in Lab and Field deployments, is to leverage the Open RAN architecture’s RIC capabilities to improve service agility, reduce the overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and optimize high traffic capacity. Such applications enable powerful mobile broadband services such as 8k video streaming, Internet of Things (IoT), e-Health, e-Education, and much more.
Vodafone has green-lighted field deployments after successful lab trials utilizing the RIC applications, with Initial field results already proving to be a great success. Trials with live traffic in Istanbul have proved Parallel Wireless Traffic Steering application effectiveness resulting in 40% throughput improvement for the least performing UEs and up to 30% throughput improvement for the entire cell.
